Impact 920
Impact 920
Money Maker x Cabaniss 515-01 (Armani)/Marcantel 41/Marcantel 23
NNRR
Impact 920 was one of Impact Hampshire’s keeper Money Maker-sired ram lambs in 2009. Take a look at his pedigree. It is no wonder that we really liked the 920 lambs for 2011 and continue to be impressed as we watch the development of a dozen plus daughters we retained for our flock plus five ram lambs we are growing out into yearlings. All of the 920 offspring are perfectly correct in their structure and bone-work. Their style and skeletal carriage is exact and their muscle expression expands by the day. Most of the 920 daughters are bred to lamb in mid-February, 2012 bred to Impact 083 or to Excel. We believe that Impact 920 is a do-it-all ram capable of siring winning show lambs, stud rams and brood ewes deluxe! His pedigree includes multiple layers of Cabaniss 118 and 172 on both sides. The maternal side of his pedigree includes Marcantel 41 and Marcantel 23 in addition to Impact 318Y (Packen’ Heat).
Sharp 20
Sharp 20
Sharp 24 x Mayer Hampshire/Crazy Horse/PC
NNRR
Sharp 20 is a very balanced, big topped, massive-loined ram with lots of real bone. We used him for the 2011 lamb crop and retained a number of his daughters. Sharp 20 absolutely stamps his daughters with consistency. We also used Sharp 20 for 2012 lambs.
Sharp 20’s full brother was exhibited at the Ohio State Fair where he placed Reserve Champion Hampshire wether in the Jr. Show, was 4th overall and Grand Champion carcass. Most of the keeper Sharp 20 daughters have been bred to Impact 083 and Excel—should be very exciting!
Sharp 24
Sharp 24
NNQR
Sharp 24 is the sire of Sharp 20. We were fortunate to lease Sharp 24 for the 2010 breeding season. He is also a double linebred of Mayer Hampshire inter-meshed with Crazy Horse Suffolk genetics layer upon layer. Sharp 24 is bred very similarly to the back to back Grand Champion market lambs exhibited by Adam Marx in Louisville.
We retained a number of Sharp 24 daughters. They are mostly bred to Impact 083 and Excel for 2012 lambs.
Woody—Knop 5335
Woody—Knop 5335
Knop 5267 (Steppin’ Up) x Knop 967=Marx 40-6/Captain 2/Omega
Woody has proven himself in our flock with the production of his daughters. We plan to use Woody again. Take a look at his profile/rib structure anad muscle composition. We believe that Woody couldn’t be more on target for this time in the club lamb industry as breeders search for the Suffolk type ram to best compliment their Hampshire endeavors. Woody will add “look” back into the equation.
Marx 4-06
Marx 3-36 x Marx 9-57
The influence of Marx 4-06 goes on and on in our flock. He was truly a prepotent sire. His daughters, grand-daughters etc. nick well with about any gene pool. 4-06 in the pedigree will make Hampshires better with more touch, more true muscle, more bone and more structural correctness.
Marx 4-06 sired the Grand Champion market lamb at the 2005 American Royal for the Lee family.
Marx 3-36
Marx 2-32 x Marx 913
What a pedigree! Marx 3-36 was a true stud ram. His son’s absolutely bred on. Marx 3-36 was the sire of Marx 4-06.
Wedge-Knop 4503
Marx 08 x Knop 052 (No Tag x Omega)
Like the old saw goes: the acorn did not fall far from the tree in respect to the similarity of Wedge and his sire Marx 08. We still believe that the genotype and phenotype offered by Wedge and his sire represent the standard to which the industry always returns when the pendulum swings—very balanced, lots of muscle, real carcass merit, tremendous maternal abilities, structural soundness and the ability to sire great show lambs that can stand critical analysis.
We are pleased to report that the “blood” of both Wedge and Marx 08 flows through our flock and provides the proven building blocks that the foundation of our flock rests upon. The unique “look” of Knop genetics can be traced to both Wedge, his sire Marx 08 and, of course, Omega as these sires were all linebred in a similar fashion. Wedge’s mother was the great foundation female Knop 052 who was sired by the famous Marx ram—No Tag (sired by Marx 083 out of Tanya whose sire was the Mayer Hampshire ram 99)—and whose mother was an own daughter of Omega back on the Bob Field’s Legend line. There is lots of history in this ancestral outline and it is still appropriate for today!
Marx 08
Caplinger 60 Orange x Marx 0064
What can be said about Marx 08? We lost him after his first year of service. He was truly prepotent and was the only ram Mel ever made bred this way. Marx 08 sired our reference sire named Wedge.
Many people still remember the wether named Ryan shown at Aksarben in 2002. He was probably the most complete show lamb that I have ever seen! I have attached his photos for your analysis.
This is the type of Grand Champion lamb carcass sired by Knop genetics that we believe the industry should strive for in its champion lambs. Notice the appropriate fat cover and the exceptional loin eye area all in a fresh, young lamb.
Knop 5267
Knop Jackpot x Captain/Bobby King
The sire of Woody. Also a prepotent ram—maybe ahead of his time. Twin brother to Knop-=Step Ahead.
Knop 5266
Knop 5266—Step Ahead
Twin brother to Steppin’ Up. The sire of the great ram used by Beck’s in Ohio—Knop 5678. 5678 and Woody are maternal brothers.
Howard
Captain x Crazy Horse Suffolk/Mayer Hampshire/Omega
NNRR
Howard is one of the outstanding sons of Captain that we used in our flock. We currently have a line of females tracing directly to Howard in our flock that have been bred to the various rams for 2012. Howard was also ahead of his time with his combination of mass and shear power yet in a pleasing package. There should be a number of “Howard” type lambs born in 2012. Notice the common denominator in Howard’s pedigree of multiple doses of Mayer Hampshire genetics combined with multiple layers of Omega.
Goldmine-Knop 5047
Marx 4-06 x Omega/Alf
Goldmine is one of the sons of Marx 4-06 we used to continue the tradition of the Omega line through his dam. Goldmine was ultra-shallow in his rib with a perfect rib shape and a massive amount of muscle. Sorry we do not have a photo of Goldmine to share. Several key daughters of Goldmine are bred to Pay Day and the rest of our 2012 stud ram group. We retained a Impact 920 sired ram lamb born in 2011 out of a maternal half-sister to Goldmine. We have also included a photo of a Goldmine sired lamb. Enjoy!
Captain-Knop 3238
Double linebred Crazy Horse Suffolk x Mayer Hampshire/Omega
Captain left an indelible influence in our flock and continues to be a strong influence through sons, daughters, etc. Captain combined muscle and look into the type of package we really appreciate. We retained a Impact 920 sired son out of a key Captain/Omega ewe born in 2011 that really looks like he can continue the legacy of Captain and Omega.
Burley-Knop 3638
NNRR
Deceased
Burley was a ram that was way ahead of his time. Burley represents the awesome power of linebreeding whereby he was quadruple-bred Red Tag 99, a son of the Original Mayer Hampshire ram. We include this photo of Burley to represent the Mayer Hampshire genetics currently linebred intensely in our ewe flock. These ewes are bred to the Hampshire rams outlined for 2012. We expect many “Burley’s” to arrive this season and invite your inspection—maybe you need a “Burley” in your 2012 showstring.
Omega-Knop 563
Marx 64 x Meatman/P.C. Walters
March 16, 1991
Registered Suffolk
Very few stud rams can attest to the level of performance by any measurement that Omega and his descendents represent. Omega and his sons sired many Grand Champion market lambs, Grand Champion carcasses and powerful maternal giants that were balanced in their phenotypic design and geneotypic makeup. Omega descendants exhibited tremendous depth of muscle, structural correctness and attractiveness of shape. Most importantly, the Omega gene pool bred on for us and our customers even to this day.
The photo of Omega is a bit tattered but still deserves analysis. We also have attached a photo of a double-bred Omega lamb exhibited by our older daughter Brittney that was Grand Champion in Denver in 1997 under Todd Wise. This same lamb was named Grand Champion carcass—quite a feat! We believe that Omega combined with the Hampshire influence currently in vogue today will and can be a tremendous combination. Omega is a registered Suffolk. We are fortunate to have a large amount of Omega semen in the tank. Additional information regarding Omega can be found under our flock history tab.
